Experienced Staff

Ms. Bernadette Blum, the Director, and a Teaching Assistant instruct daily classes and develop program materials. Ms. Blum has been with River Park since 1997. She has a B.S. and an M.A. in Elementary Education, certification in Early Childhood Development, and is a member of PACT and NAEYC. The Teaching Assistant has experience with children and a college-level education.

Small Class Size

2 Teachers: 10-12 Students
With a teacher-student ratio of one to five, River Park offers highly individualized attention. Class size is 10 students for four days a week and 11 to 12 students one day a week with a parent assisting the Director and Teaching Assistant in the classroom.

School Hours and Term

Classes are held Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The school year runs from September through early June. Families may choose a schedule of 3, 4 or 5 days a week. River Park does not follow the DCPS school calendar.

Parent Involvement

Strong parent involvement is an integral part of the River Park community. The school is a co-operative, parent-run organization. The Director and Teaching Assistant are the only paid staff. All administrative duties are carried out by the parents. Parents assist with field trips, organize fundraising, and serve on the Board of Directors. Parents also assist in the classroom--generally, once every three months.
